gm339 vhf to uhf?

Post by gord »

Greetings from Australia;

Can a GM339 VHF be changed to RX and TX UHF 403-470? If it can, what hardware and sofware do i need and how do i do it?

Im new, as you can tell, to radio programing, so, please assume Im a complete idiot in your replies.

Thanks in advance

The question is how much money do you want to spend? In
this case you would need to jack up the serial number and
slide in a completely different RF set of boards. This will
include the TX PA board, TX/RX board, RX front end and
the VCO board.

You would be better off finding another radio with the
frequency range your looking to operate on. It will
probably be cheaper in the long run than changing this
radio to something else it isn't.

From the looks of it the GM339 is in the CDM family, which would suggest that there is just one circuit board for everything. There's also a good chance the heatsink is different between a VHF and UHF, you might be able to use the same control head and part of the housing, but you'd be replacing everything else.

What radios do you own?: HT1550's, X9000's, CDM1550's
