Ok, here is my problem:
I have two P25 trunk sites very close together (same SysID, slightly different NAC's), one big one for general use, and one smaller one to cover a particular office complex. I want to keep as many subscribers as possible on the bigger system to avoid busying up channels on the smaller site unnecessarily. I can not pot down the control channel, as the infrastructure is M/A-Com, and they allow any channel to be the control. The bigger site sits up on a hill and gives excellent coverage. The smaller site is lower, and covers the office buildings very well, but the two sites have considerable overlap that I want to cover with the larger site.
I know I need to adjust the RSSI thresholds in my XTS-5000's and try to get a 2-level change, but how do the threshold values (0-FF) correspond to the RSSI levels I see on my portable? I get a max of 148 and a minimum around 35-40 before I get out of range. I have also tried setting the "Preferred Sites" to favor the large site "always", to no avail.
Right now I have Omnilink disabled, and each site in its own zone. What happens is the customers will forget to change zones when they go inside a building (or get out away from the complex), then complain their radio won't work...I have been told that this is not a viable solution (seems fine to me, but I can operate a radio). I could put the primary talkgroup for each customer into "channel" 1 and 2, just on the different sites, but then they would have to give up some of the 18 gazillion talkgroups that they insist are necessary. Go figure. Sure, they could change "channels" using the keypad, but only once hell freezes over.
Sorry for the rant against consumers, but it just gets me when they ask for the moon, and when you deliver, they tell you that its too complicated.
If anyone can help out with the RSSI thresholds that /\/\ tells me not to play with, I would appreciate it. Thanks.
