Motorola GP-350 Repair

Post by Tom Giantonio »

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with this.
I have a GP-350 radio that had a sharp object go into the microphone hole.
I pulled the radio apart and there is a scratch on the mic element, but not a puncture.
The radio receives fine, but will not transmit.
Every 3/4 times I try to transmit it will, but only produces noise.
If anyone has any ideas to help fix this, I would greatly appreciate it.
I only paid about $130 for the radio, so an $85 flat rate fix price seems not worth it.

Thanks, Tom/G, N1VVD

Does it work with a SP/MIC? Have you tried to replace the mic? If not do that first.

Did the GP350 work OK before the puncture wound?

Will,
Yes it did work fine....
I really like this radio. It has the loudest audio I have heard in an HT.

Thanks,
Will

It might be just a bad electret mic element. They are soldered to the flex, but the fles likes to melt really easaly. The mic elements are not expensive, I may still have some new ones in the GP300 box.

I have the test adaptor to test the TX audio.
