Unfortunately it's more than just a simple change. The radio used inside most of them is an Expo, crystal controlled, so you have to get new channel elements, install them, realign the radio, etc.

Some of the VRS units have a RNet radio in them. Same thing, crystal controlled.

Not programmable unfortunately...
Duct tape is like the force, it has a dark side and a light side and it holds the universe together.

What radios do you own?: Motorola, Icom, Sunair (HF).

Actually, the last one I recrystalled was a Radius chassis, not an Expo. Still you're pretty much correct. No channel element involved, though. Simple crystals. Still takes a full-blown lab bench and service monitor to align, though.

Keep the peace(es).

The only ones i have had here are the ones with the Expo radio in them, i saw the inside of one with the RNet radio, which i believe is the same as a P50 or something like that, so that must be the Radius one your talking about?

I was about halfway through replacing the Expo with a HT600 chassis when i gave up and sold the whole works, didn't have the time or desire to finish it.
