Saber IE questions

Post by silverbk »

I picked up a radio at Dayton that appears to be a Saber 1E as it has a short body and batwing switch on the top where the securenet switch would be. It has no markings on the case or on the escutcheon on top.

I was able to read the radio and there seemed to be a normal Saber I persoanlity in there, except that it had options for Statalert, and MDC that I don't see in my other Saber I radios.

When I opened the case I did not see any extra board on the front shield which should be there if the radio is a IE.

So does anyone know what radio this is? I think I might have bricked it attempting to load a 24 channel code plug as it does not seem to power up now. Any suggestions?

Did you save the codeplug that was programmed in it when you got it?

I hope you did, it's ULTR important to do this first thing.

If the front shield is bare and has only the speaker/mic, then it's probably a Saber I with a later CORE than usual, probably a 6D, as most are 5C or 5D that are normally being seen on the used market.

Simply reprogram the radio with the original codeplug and if you didn't change any of the service settings, or programmed it using F2, then you should be alright.

You can print out all the channel data as well as the service data through F5 when you are in those screens, or you can do a mass printing of all data at once if you choose.

Again, load up the original codeplug data and blow it back in, and all SHOULD be fine.

Thanks,

That did the trick. Radio works like a champ now.

I guess this is not a IE as I thought. Is there anything I can use the switch for? Can it be programmed?

This board is amazing!

The toggle on the standard Sabers operates secure 'ON' or 'OFF', that's all you get, but you can select 'delete secure switch' in F4 options.

As you are more than aware of, you can also select the following under F4 options:

1. H444: Delete Proper Code Detect

2. H245: Delete clear mode alert tones on TX.

3. H244: Delete clear/coded transmission switch.<--Select to disable switch.

4. H400: Secure slaved to a mode.

5. H401: Clear slaved to a mode

6. H432: VP capable only

If your CORE version is 6D, or maybe even 8D, then you can make use of and select either of the following two additional options.

1. H852 6D Master option

OR

2. H549 8D Master option (Advanced Statalert)

5D and lower CORE versions can not make use of the last two options.
