vehicle tracking on LMR

Post by eboe »

i'd like to get some kind of GPS receiver that i can connect to the 16-pin accy port on our CMD750 & PM400 mobiles that will transmit the GPS data at the end of the transmission. i have conventional uhf freq's on MTR2000 repeaters. i don't know much about this, but what should i be looking for. i saw some thales units that might be what i'm looking for but i'm not sure if they are meant to be used in this manner or not.

Pryme radio products is about to release a GPS speaker mic for use with almost any 2-way portable radio. they will transmit GPS data at the end of the user's TX, at programmable intervals, and/or as requested by dispatch. mapping is displayed on any pc connected to an RX radio running a mapping software. unfortunately they won't have a mobile version of this product. (at least nothing yet). i will probably try them out when they become available.

anyway, i'm looking for something like that, but for our vehicles. add-on black boxes are fine. i have no problem with mounting a box and a GPS antenna. i'm just looking for something that will work properly with the radios and TX the GPS info like the Pryme units do.

what should i be looking for here? any suggestions are welcome.

What radios do you own?: You can't imagine!...

We have developed a system for a fleet of trucks to monitor their Thermo-Kings along with GPS data over their VHF network, for data aquisition job; small black boxes connected to GM300 accy conn.
They were reverting to a data channel and then returned to normal for voice operation. They could also send data at the end of the voice transmition.
They were operating at 1200bps to be compatible with 12.5 kHz radios and sounded like mdc1200 bursts.
I think you need just the GPS data.
If you think that this can help you , I can check it out.

Paul, any more details on that system would be appreciated.

MIC-E APRS unit

Post by Wowbagger »

It sounds like what want is a MIC-E APRS unit, which is no longer available, or a PIC-encoder unit, which is still available.
This is my opinion, not Aeroflex's.

I WILL NOT give you proprietary information. I make too much money to jeopardize my job.
