Radius M10 Configuration for IRLP

Post by kc0arf »

Hello,

I have a Radius M10 Model M34XVC20F3 that I am trying to setup for IRLP use / ham radio. The radio is 25W UHF 438-470, and I am currently running it at 15 watts. The Panel Number is 004, and it is UHF.

The radio programs well using the GM300/GR300/M120/M10 software Version R04.00.00 software (24-Jan-94).

I am able to program the radio, and it responds to the frequency and power level modifications that I have made to it. Transmission audio from the MIC is working well, and I hear people talking back to me clear as day with the internal speaker.

My problem is that when I am using the 16 pin rear connector, that I am having garbled/distorted transmitter audio from the M10. The M10 is receiving properly, but not transmitting the audio properly.

I checked the computer end of the system: the computer's sound card has clear audio, and is at a decent level. I checked the wiring diagram, and even purchased a commercial adapter kit. I think that if my wiring was bad, that I would not hear any audio at all.

I do not think my sound levels are too high, as if I turn down the volume, I no longer hear the audio transmitted from the M10.

Again, if I disconnect the wiring harness from the rear, and connect a microphone, and talk, it is clear and wonderful.

My questions:

1) I see references that some of the pins are programmable from the RSS. How? The RSS seems very simple, and I have not found any sub-menus to program specific pins.

2) The radio used to be installed inside of a public service vehicle. Is it possible that the memory of the radio has some special coding inside of it that needs to be cleared? If so, how do I make the radio a default software setup?

3) Am I using the right RSS software for the radio? Again, I see hints of being able to program specific functions, but no idea where to locate such options inside the RSS.

I have had experience programming Syntor X9000 and Spectra trunk mount radios, and this is my first Radius series model. If there are things I need to do / check, please spell it out for me, as I am a newbie.

Thank you for reading my post, and considering my issue.

Fixed the Problem :)

Hello,

I was able to fix the problem by placing a .1 uF capacitor in series with the speaker's audio line.

Thus, the audio comes from the speaker jack of the soundcard, then goes through the capacitor, and then into the MaxTrac. Audio sounds clear, but is a bit tinny; perhaps going to try a different sized capacitor to see if I can add a bit more bass to it.

I am using the exact same radio for IRLP node 2410 after the GE Phoenix went south from 5 years of Hamsexy Nets and Hurricane Net listening.

What pins are you using for your receive audio?

I am using external speaker audio Pin 16 with no issues at all, hardly had to adjust the levels from the Phoenix. The only thing I did was turn up the max deviation in the alignment section of the RSS as I noticed the audio peaked at 3.75khz deviation and started to distorted on the service monitor when injecting a tone via the Lineman, I set it so it would peak closer to 5Khz before distorting so I had room for adjustment via the node computer and have nice linear 1:1 audio.
