Saber 2K mod?

Post by FireCpt809 »

I have a Saber III that is a CN 8K version that a previous owner had used the 2K option on. I know there is a way to restore it back that is mentioned on Repeater-Builder but no details.

anyone know the trick?

What radios do you own?: What's a radio?

kb0nly explains one way here, but as he likes to say, it's not for the faint hearted. Creating a new code plug will NOT work, the memory must be reset or "corrupted".

You can also use an older version of software... R04 works for me. Shove a new codeplug in that way, and you're golden.

The easiest method that's surefire to regain the 8K use is to reprogram the radio, and as soon as it begins to write data to the radio...shut off the RIB, the codeplug in the radio is now defective and you can create a new 8K codeplug for the radio.

As you know, the 'dots' show programming succession, and halting this operation within the first couple of 'dots' will make the codeplug useless, and it is now ready and able to accept a freshly created codeplug.

Read the radio and program it. As soon as 2 dots appear turn off the radio, DO NOT LET MORE THAN THREE DOTS SHOW! Now reprogram and realign.

All of the tuning values are lost so the radio must be realigned.

My cities Fire dept has been getting surplus radios. Many are 8K but programmed as 2K. We use a modified 6.28 amd 7.01. The above has never failed.

You must be fast!! If at first you do net susceed try again. You must have the volume control at min or you will not be fast enough.

power off during programming "dots" did not work for me when I had that problem.

Resolution was to put in new codeplug with Ver 4.0

Then re-read radio with ver 7.0.1 and push in the original codeplug I had saved before I had hosed it into 2k mode.
