My saber III has gone south all of a sudden. It is displaying the battery icon in the display, no matter which battery (all fully charged) I connect. The speaker sounds really tinney, and the radio beeps with a high pitched tone if I try to key on any channel. No receive audio.
It was fine last night. All I did was put it in the charger and this morning, poof.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? I haven't been near it with a programmer. It wasn't droppped. One minute fine, the next, it's toes up.

Let's start at the beginning....
Radio good before charging, but dead after charging.
Was the radio left 'ON' during charge?
If the battery was depleted when placed in the charger, and the radio was 'ON' as well, this may have corrupted the codeplug, it's unlikely, but possible as a power spike may have wiped key data during charge.
Before getting upset, try reprogramming it with your working codeplug, it may have only been corrupted enough to keep the radio from functioning.
If this is the case, you will have to realign the radio as well.
When all else is equal, the simplest solution is usually the right one.

I beleive t was in the charger when it croaked, but not positive. I'm only sure that it was working once and shot the next. The dispaly still is accurate.
Would the speaker sound really wierd under your scenario? It all of the sudden sounds like a 25 cent speaker, very tinny.

Last time I was working in a Saber, I put the reference oscillator back in wrong. My audio sounded much higher-pitched: the beeps were higher-pitched, and holding down the monitor button gave me a high-pitched hiss, rather than the usual 'rush' of static.
Granted, your reference oscillator probably didn't turn itself upside down while it was on the charger, but I'd tend to side with HumHead.
BTW, I thought that the battery icon was always displayed, and only when it began flashing did it mean it was low. (Or have I had a bad battery all along?
