Interesting MTS2000 text issue

Post by Rick Rock »

I have a MTS2000 VHF (Euro version) bought from a member here that has been working flawlessly. I got a DES-XL module for it, installed it (haven't got it KVL'd yet), and now some of the radio messages come up in another language- RADIO LOCKED comes up as RADIO GESPERRT, and then some other error, which I presume is yelling @ me for having secure enabled w/o a key. The radio does still function properly, other than it doesn't like to key up once the low battery chirp has started. Nothing else was changed in the programming.

Have you checked the radio's language setting?

In RSS, it's Main->F4->F3->F6, "Native Language".

Strange.

It isn't an early pre-Flashport radio, is it? Both my American UHF MTS2000s with firmware 6.53 give that option in RSS R06.07.00, listing Spanish, Portuguese, German, English and something else.

No it is a flashport unit, but w/o the annoying Toolproof capabilities, firmware 6.27 flashed 001008-001200-6.

How is that accomplished?

Simple, the toolproofing was implemented by the Florida factory for the US releases- this radio was made in Europe.

Ah, I was under the impression it applied to all MTS2000, U.S. or otherwise. Good to know.

It doesn't help any, but I'm curious... Does it still work properly, just with different languages? I had an mcs2000 do exactly the same, but I never bothered to try and fix it.
