IntelliCharge 2 ?

I have a regular Jedi-Style charger, with the Charging/Complete and red/green little light in the middle, but instead of being like normal chargers I've seen, it says "IntelliCharge 2" in the lower right-hand corner.

Model is AAHTN9001B.

Any idea why the IntelliCharge 2 series was different than the rest, if at all?

It was just a newer model of the regular charger.
It still cooks your batteries, however the charging algorithm is a little better than the earlier version.
I just dumped a load of used ones.
Were upgrading everything to impres

I believe it added support for NiMH batteries.

Thinking about it Pat you are correct. NiMH batteries came out at around that time.

I am actually using it to charge my Ni-MH battery for my XTS (RNN4006AR) so that's good that it'll charge that OK then.

Yes - it added support for those batteries. There's an intellicharger 3, which did all 3 chemestries if i recall....

So

NTN7180A = overnight charger. 12vdc 200mA
AAHTN9001B = Intellicharge 2 rapid charger. 13.8vdc 900mA

The NTN7180A is a totally dumb charger, it just feeds the input voltage and current into the battery through a small network of resistors.

Does the Intellicharge 2 use a negative delta V with temperature?

As a personal user whose most radio usage is for monitoring only, a standard Jedi battery and overnight charger has lasted my co-workers and I over 5 years of daily charging using the overnight charger. I bought an Intellicharge 2 off the Batboard a year ago, so we'll see how long that lasts me.
