Smart Rib Vs Normal Rib

Post by Vercomm »

Just a few quick questions about the moto smart rib:

1. can it program all the radios that a normal rib can?

2. do all the normal rib cables work on a smart rib?

3. What more can a smart rib do than a normal rib?

4. What radios require a smart rib to program?

Thanks,

Jamie

The only main difference between te 2 is the smart RIB is used for flashport upgrades. Other than that it uses the same cables, same power supply, and works on all the same radios.

My Smart RIB RLN1015D does not have a place for a battery, you need to use a P/S, and the power supply is not the same as the RLN4008. The center pin is ground on the Smart RIB; reverse that of the RLN4008 RIB.

It has a 9 pin connector on it, not the 15 pin to connect to a computer. It is a lot easier to get a cable for.

It cost more.

0180302E27 is the part number for the Smartrib Power Supply
RLN4488A will get you the Smart Rib battery pack.
It screws to the bottom of the rib and takes about 6 AA cells

I wonder if this would "screw" on to the older RIB's that do not have battery provisions? Link to a photo would be nice!!

RLN4488A= $123.71 for an empty battery holder. Nice.

The Smartnet rib and the standard rib have the same case (including the hole for the battery but no cavityin the smartrib)
You need to open a standard rib and see if there is a 2 pin orange connector for power but I'm sure it could be hardwired in anyway.

As of May 2013, it appears that the RLN4488A battery carrier is no longer furnished by Motorola. Remaining SmartRibs are subject to "stock on hand."
