The HT1550.XLS if not use the special NNTN4503AR battery with the built in programming key can do the field programming ?

Anyone have other method to do that if no that NNTN4503AR battery ?

There is no other way to unlock the keypad programming feature other then to buy the proper battery.

the chip in the battery is what unlocks that feature. but even with that battery the field programing is limited.

anybody figure out how to duplicate the chip's effect for keypad program?

or if you can pluck the chip out of a red batt and put it in the radio somehow, soldering its contacts to the inside contacts...\

you would still have to have the red battery to get the chip so why not just get the right battery. that chip is also what tells the radio the mah and how to work the battery guage on the display too so it's always going to read the amperage for a red battery wether you put it in larger or smaller battery. (if you even could get it to work) and if i'm not mistaken you'd have to almost destroy a new battery to get it open to get that chip in it.
