Trunking MDC on conventional?

Post by ayaresr »

I have a radio setup for conventional operation only. Currently I only use it programmed to RX only for a Smartnet trunked system. While poking around in the CPS the other day I found where my radio will do MDC decoding. Again, my radio is only conventional monitoring this. If I try to set this up will it decode the ID's that the Smartnet system is using or no? Thanks, Ryan

SmartNET trunking doesn't transmit MDC IDs. All signalling with respect to talkgroups and Radio IDs is done over the control channel. Programming MDC decode won't do anything.

There is one slight exception. The LTS2000 is the only portable that Motorola ever made that was capable of transmitting MDC over trunking. If your agency uses this, it might be possible to decode their MDC IDs. But, the chances of someone actually using LTS2000's with MDC over trunking is extremly remote as the APCO-16 standard provides for all the features MDC could.[/i]

No, they are running MTS/MCS2000 on the entire system. I thought that the trunking ID's were different, but wanted to check into it anyway. Thanks for the reply, Ryan

What radios do you own?: X9000 thru APX

A point of clarification...

Are we talking about an ANALOG trunking system, or a CONVENTIONAL repeater system?

Seems to be some different terms floating around here...

Either way, MDC and trunking together are basically a no-no. Usually the only time you will hear MDC or other signalling on a TRS is due to conventional channel patched into a talkgroup.

This is an analog trunking system. Sorry if I wasn't very clear in my original post.
