Luis,

Is this a CLB station or a CXB station?

If it's a CLB, you can only read the station using the R1801 by connecting to the test connector on the front. These stations are identified by the lack of a display on the right side of the control board. You cannot read or program this station with RSS.

If it's a CXB station, you should be okay. I would try running your computer under native DOS and see if that helps.

He sent me private e-mail. I suggested a programming cable issue.

Of course it's always possible that both machines got damaged somehow and are refusing to communicate via the programming interface, but for now let's assume they're working.

Perhaps the stations are in some strange mode. Disconnect the power, wait 15 seconds, and plug them back in. Make sure no error codes show up, then try it.

It's always possible that the Motorola cable was made incorrectly. Stuff like that does happen, and if they have no way to test it after it's been made, it has a 50/50 chance of working.

If all else fails, something could have blown up on the programming interface. That same line goes to all the boards, so any one could be messing it up.

Any nearby lightning strikes? If a cable was plugged in at the time, it could have let a spike come through, damaging something.

Could anyone else have gotten to the equipment to do something to it?

I want to thanks you guys for the help I alredy fixed the enigma. The problem is the serial port. whem the big M wrote the software for the msf the serial port was different than todays machine. Somehow when the new machine came out they have a different protocol in the serial port. I used an old 486 66MHZ with the old serial and VIOLA it works. I also have to load DOS 5.0 in to the machine to work. the old machines will not work with DOS 6.0 and higher.

Thanks again.

DOS 6.0 will run on just about anything. I have a 486 25Mhz AT&T laptop, ancient, that i use for programming with DOS 6.0 loaded.

What make/model/speed machine were you using that did NOT work? As far as I know, the internal serial ports should all be compatible. The MSF software is not written like the product for the MaxTrac; it should not care.

But glad you got it working.

Yup.... last machine I used to do MSF was a P3-450 or so running Win98 with that version of RSS. I had more problems with early versions of some CPS stuff....

I use a Dell 850 MHz laptop that normally runs WinXP, but I boot to a DOS floppy to program any radios. The only thing that won't work on that machine is HT600; needs a really slooooooooooooow computer.
