Strange MT2000 error while programming
Ok I've searched through the database and not seen this particular error. When I try & read an MT2000 I just got off Ebay (UHF) the RSS begins reading the radio but after completing the read I get the following error:
[Block Type Error]
"An unrecoverable error has occured, processing cannot continue"
then the #'s 255/57
Is it the radio that's junk, the PC? I've tried everything, fully charged batteries, etc & I can communicate with the radio just not fully read it. Should I throw it away?

What version of RSS are you using? I've seen very old versions give that type of error instead of the standard "codeplug too new" message...I guess they're so old they can't recognize a codeplug packed by a newer RSS version at all.
Otherwise, it can also be an indication of a corrupt codeplug. You can generally clone in a known good codeplug to fix it, although I've seen some stubborn ones which required one to be forced in with LAB.

Well, I think I have my answer! I took the radio to my local Moto shop & they confirmed TOAST! Bad corrupted codeplug! To make matters worse, the guy I bought it from on ebay was a police officer that had just posted about it being a dead radio here on this board days before it showed up on Ebay--geeesh, jyou really can't trust anyone anymore--I'm filing a claim with Paypal for a complete & total refund.

Most Motorola shops are unaware of tools such as LAB, so they wouldn't know how to fix a corrupted codeplug anyway. Since you have it, have you tried forcing a known good codeplug into the unit? Most of the time, that'll fix the problem.

Well, I have a known good plug, but when I tried that I get an error saying that codeplug is too new for this application...I'm at witts end with this radio, about ready to throw it in the lake---wish I could use the case & knobs on my other top display MT2000 VHF radio--at least I'd feel like I got something out of this--

This has been covered many times...Ignore the error...it's telling you it can't unpack the codeplug to display it...but it has still loaded the 'packed' codeplug into memory! Just go into the 'read/write with no pack/unpack' screen. Hit 'F8-write to radio' and it'll force the packed codeplug into the radio. This should clear your error. Of course, the radio will require an alignment afterwards.mmb wrote:Well, I have a known good plug, but when I tried that I get an error saying that codeplug is too new for this application...

You need to use whatever "regular" RSS version the codeplug you just jammed in was saved with, or newer. If it was a codeplug from RSS version 6.00.00, then that or greater will work. Your older LAB stuff (ie: version 3.02.00) won't do it...although often LAB version 2.00.01 can read the radio, for whatever reason. I think version checking must've been very minimal in that one.mmb wrote:It did! Thanks, now I have a working radio! Only problem is do I need to use different software or something to program it with my local stuff? Can't seem to program my freqs in it using Lab? Forgive me, I'm a computer wiz, but this software I'm very new to---

MT2000 codeplug UHF with keypad
Thanks, although it looks hopeless-I have 4 different versions of the RSS with the latest being 6.00 and I still get the same eror on BOTH radios, "codeplug too new for this application" strange considering I programmed the VHF one WITH that same software & nobody's touched it since?

You need to use a regular version of RSS or CPS to program the radio and it must be the same version or newer that what ever the codeplug you last forced into the the radio had been programmed with last.
