You should read the programming primer.

I have "a" ribless cable from ebay. I have no way of knowing if it's the same type you are looking at.

From my experience the ribless cable works fine. I have used it to do everything that a regular cable would be used to do. It's a hell of a lot more convenient.

The regular cable with the 25 pin end requires a RIB box and RIB to computer cable.

The operating system is irrelevant. Once the signal gets to the cable the rest has already been taken care of by the software and RIB.

What radios do you own?: Motorola/Kenwood

Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

thanks for the link to the primer...i read it and have a few more questions...

I have read that for the xts 3000 you need the Motorola CPS software to program it, and not the RSS...is this right?

is the ht1000 programming software the same for the xts3000?

If not, what is the name of the program I need so when I call motorola I know what I am asking for.

Will my winxp 2.4ghz computer work to program the xts3000 with the RIB-less cable and appropriate software? or will I have to look around and find an older computer?

thanks for your help...it is much appriciated! -tnf

No, the HT1000 software is not the same. You need the Astro Saber/XTS3000 software to program that radio and that will definitely run in Windows XP. I don't think /\/\ sells it in a DOS version any longer but I do believe it exists
