MSF 5000 NarrowBand

I know Com-Spec makes the filters to convert an MSF (UHF) from 25 to 12.5 khz but does Motorola offer a kit to do it. I would prefer to use Motorola's approved parts.

If not has anyone ever done the Com-Spec filter mod, What was involved and did it realy reduce the RX bandwidth. I have 3 MSF's that I use as backup to our Quantars, I have already set the TX Deviation to the specs for a 12.5 channel but would like to take care of the RX side as I do get some bleed over from the adjcent 12.5 frequencys located on both sides of our assigned frequency.

Being in NY we have to compete with the city for frequencys, we had ours first and when the band was split the city got frequencys on both sides of ours. Just glad they are not using them for mobile data, would not want to have to compete with that 24 hours a day.

The bleed over does not bother the Quantars as they are already 12.5 RX

If a Motorola kit does exist does anyone have part numbers?

I believe that the Com-Spec kit is four new crystal filters that get put into the IF strip on the Uniboard. There might also be a few resistor and capacitor changes too, to make up for the change in bandwidth.

The board can be easily removed. Components on it are fairly large, and the board uses thru-hole mounting technology, so a simple soldering iron should handle the mods. If that's all there is to it, I'd expect it to take about an hour, plus adjustment of the squelch and audio settings when done.

Since the MSF line got discontinued before narrow-banding got rolling, I doubt Motorola has such a kit. But if someone knows of one, by all means provide the part number, if it's available. I'd bet that the Com-Spec kit is cheaper.

Guess I will go the ComSpec route, was hoping for a Motorola kit but your right the MSF was history before 12.5 splits.
