Antenna heading by Lat/Lon?

Post by kb0nly »

Anyone know a software app that allows you to put in the Lat/Lon of one location and then ask for the distance/heading to another location by specifying it's Lat/Lon?

The reason i ask is that i know where the two cellular towers are in my area for Alltel. I would like to calculate the distance and heading to both from the Lat/Lon of my house and the tower sites as shown in the FCC info on them.

It would help me to better understand the distances involved.

This is not a standalone app, but it'll do it.

Cool.. That gave me the info i needed for now, would still be nice to have a app for the laptop that will do this as well.

The cellular provider is blowing smoke up my butt so i wanted some cold hard facts.

It's only JavaScript. If you save the page locally, it'll still work.

Don't you love it when you call their network performance group, or whatever other providers call it, and you get some guy that has no idea what your talking about when it comes to tower distance and signal strength, etc..

Consider acquring DeLorme TopoUSA. Under $100 mapping program for entire US. Can enter two points by lat/lon, draw a line between them and get bearing and distance. Can also get terrain profile along the line between two points. All in all, quite useful for site evaluation and licensing.

Oddly enough i have Delorme Topo installed right now. I didn't know you could do that with it though, i have only had a tiny amount of time to play with it so far.
