Unlike some base stations, the Quantar's transmitter exciter is continuously powered. So what frrequency should the exciter be parked on when the radio is not actually transmitting (but the exciter is powered)?

In a typical repeater installation, the Manual recommends setting the idle frequency equal to the transmit frequency. This minimizes transmitter attack time, since the synthesizer doesn't have to change frequencies. However, if the station is located close to where users will congregate, you might want to move the idle frequency a couple of channels away, since otherwise portable radios may hear the exciter (which is on the output frequency that their portables are listening to).

In a typical simplex installation, the exciter idle frequency has to be moved so as not to interfere with the receiver. Once again, the RSS manual gives you a set of formulas for calculating the recommended frequency.
