CDM1550 LS+ not unmuting or scanning

Post by PhillyPhoto »

I have a CDM1550 LS+ like the title says, and I have thrown some basic conventional freq's into it. I also have an HT1000 with the same frequencies. This morning I threw everything in my car to do some range testing, and noticed my CDM wasn't opening up. I don't have the codeplug in front of me so I'll be going off of my memory, but I remember the muting being set to "STD Muting/Unmuting", and the PL tones are correct. When it's in scan it won't go to any other channel that has activity, and when I'm on the channel that is talking, I see the RSSI go up, but it doesn't break the squelch. I tried a direct frequency and I was less than 10 ft from the antenna and getting a full signal, but still nothing.

When I take it off of scan the red light blinks constantly. I am using an invertor, so I might not getting all the juice to it, but I'm not using it to TX, so I dont really see that as being a big problem.

The inverter could be putting a lot of noise on the power leads. I've seen radios not key up from this, it could affect the receive as well. Try it running off the battery or a good power supply.

I'll try going directly to the battery at lunch today, and see if that helps it at all.

Be certain that you have defeated "Passport," by unchecking "Option Board" in all conventional "personalities." In ways I do not begin to undestand, "Passport" seems to take over the whole radio, if invoked.

Yeah I was having that problem last night, but did a search for it, and found out that little secret.

Another thing that irks me is that I don't have the option for MDC signaling on conventional channels. I built the MDC signaling system, but it only lets me use it in the LS trunking section. I could care less about that since I'm not on a LTR system, and would like to have MDC on the conventional channels. I have the tab for it, but the drop-down boxes are disabled.

OK, just got back from the trial run. Hooked directly to the battery on the 20A fuse, and tried it and it unmuted fine. When I get home I'll have to see if I can figure out the MDC system. I'm not too worried, because I'm looking to trade for a "AA5_N/AA6_N" model, but I'd like to get this one working so if I can't find a trade I can deal with it for a little bit.

You need a "6AN" model in order to have conventional MDC capability.
