Headless Maxtrac?

Post by bellersley »

Hi all. I've got a number of Maxtrac 840 mobiles. They're B7 models. Type I 800MHz, but they also do 10 conventional channels. They'd make excellent Trunker/Treport radios. Problem is, I don't have any control heads for them. The local trunked system I'd like to run Trunker on has 4 control channels. Is there any way to have the Maxtrac power up as soon as a power lead is connected, and to have scan turn on automatically? I was thinking of using a DPST type of switch that would power it up as well as simulate pushing the scan button. Would that work, or should I be thinking something else?

Thanks!

The DC power runs through the power switch on the control had and goes back to the radio. You should only have to jumper the right two pins on the logic board to control head connectors. You won't have any audio coming out of the radio because that also runs through the volume control, which is missing if you don't have a control head attached. The schematic diagram will let you know which pins to work with.

The control heads are relatively inexpensive. Last I checked, somewhere around $30 each. At that price, the hassle of trying to run them headless isn't worth it to me. YMMV.

Part number HCN3217B. List is $33. They're showing as available.
