OT: Dispatch Phones / Off Hook Condition

Post by KuhnElectronics »

I need to pull an off hook condition from a Iwatsu Omega phone by Adix...

I called our phone reps and they said it cant be done, other than at the trunks, but I need to do this on a per position basis for a console.....

They said we need to NOT use digital phones, but at this point it isnt an option to change out phones...

Someone did mention before about some sort of digital box that monitored the digital run back to the PBX system for data, and gave a contact closure...

I know SOMEONE has ran into this before....any ideas??

Thanks,

Nick

Check with http://www.dees.com Dees Communications; I seem to remember ages ago running across a product they had that generated just this kind of off-hook signal. I remember it being in a Meridian system, but they might be able to help you out.

Nick,
If all you need is "off hook", you can measure the loop current on each station & trip a relay. This *will* affect the maximum distace the phone can be from the switch due to the coil introducing distortion into the data pattern.

If you have a spare "donor" phone lying about, you can add bridged appearences for each position, and use the V+ source that drives the LED to switch a transitior for the bigger relay. I have done this with a IX-24KTS-2 phone. It went into a 1U rack mount chassis, with opto-isolated Form "C" contacts on the back.

BTW, If you need more phone status then that, Synway makes a PCI board, that will recover the audio, extract key operation, and lamp status for the ADIX-E switch.

I thought this would be more of a common problem, but I guess the majority of PSAPs are not using these type of phone systems....

I dont have any donor phones laying around for this system...

and the phone location is pretty far now, so I am a little concerned with throwing a coil on the line...

I have something kicking in my brain telling me that there is SOMEWHERE a box that monitors data on a digital phone system and gives a contact closure ....but I am not sure if it is specific to this application or something that was wrigged to work...

Anyhow, has anyone heard of such a device?

This is driving me CRAZY!

Nick,
Most PSAP's use a survivable system by Avaya, NT, or Plant Equipment. All offer the interfacing you need. ADIX does not. That's why I had to build the interface from a donor phone.

Which switch? (or was it a small system)
