PR 1500 & MT 1500

Post by BNN123 »

My question is with regard to the above radios,

does anyone on the board have used these units and how is the RX audio and sensitivity. is there any bugs in this radio series??

has anyone had problems with these radios???

i want to buy a new handheld, some people say the vertex radio are good the public safety ones. for example the vx 537 and the vx 900 modwls are rumored to be as good as M.....

with all the talk about M having problems in the past i am steering twards vertex. here in the city NYPD has gone with the VX 537 MODEL..

so with regard to my question, i would like the guys on this board to give me their experience with any of the above mention radios or what you all heard about, comparing the quality from the motorola radio to the vertex public safety units

thanks

I haven't had any experiance with the above two radios but I have with the Vertex Radios! I DO NOT beleive they are suited for Public saftey!!!

Just my 2 cents

Anumber of the same model Vertex were put into a local prison. They were replacing some MTS2000's. The Vertex did not make the grade. Main failures were related to dropping (broken housings, batteries, dead radios, no TX Etc.
The MTS2000's went back into service.

The Pr1500 and Mt1500 have a few bugs, mainly pl/dpl encode/decode issues but that will get resolved. As far as durablity, forget vertex, they are not made for public safety. Motorola is superior in durablity and features, but you can also probaly buy two vertex radios for the price of one Motorola. And the sensitivity and audio of the Pr1500 and Mt1500 are great, can't say anything about the vertex though.

I've got a couple hundred MT1500's (Model 1.5) deployed and their durability is equal to the 400+ MTS2000's that see side by side service
in a Public Works environment.

They are used in a trunking 800 environment no negative comments from the users as a whole and they also are very good in rejecting NEXTEL interference when we did our initial testing prior to deploying them.

My agency has several thousand Motorola xts-3500s and the knobs are falling off of these also.
We literally have to replace 20-30 knobs a day. This happens with both the volume and channel selector.

I refer you to this thread. Pay close attention to the TPG torture test....

I have 2 PR1500's, and had 2 MT1500's. They are the exact same physical radio, short of what bands they were made in, and they are really fantastic little portables. I would strongly recommend either.

The 3500 has been discontinued for how long? So the radios are already several years old. Now if they were 3 weeks old it would be a different story. Having to carry around a leatherman so you can change channels was probably not in the original spec.
