Minitor II page broadcast

Post by gvfdff »

I'm looking for some advice on how to rebroadcast pager audio for our dept. The situation is we are paged out on a county wide freq. but my dept. has its own private radio system that we use. I would like to connect a Minitor II pager to a radio (Maxtrac or GM300, etc.) to broadcast the page on our private freq. as we are being dispatched. I have searched other posts and can see how to activate the PTT of the radio but my concern is getting the audio connections right. I see there are a few options to get the audio from the Minitor (spk. jack on top, pins on bottom, back of amp. charger). What (if anything) needs to go between the pager and radio?

I am looking at using either a Maxtrac or GM w/16 pin connector on back, but would consider other options...

How to do it? Easiest is probably the amplified charger with relay outputs using something along the lines of Andy's setup at http://andyknitt.googlepages.com/firestationalerting

Instead of the alarm bell, you would have the relay close the PTT on the radio and then feed the pager's audio into the mic input.

That said, can your dispatch center transmit on your channel? Its going to be a lot more reliable if you have them simulcast the pages - on the countywide channel and your channel. Fewer links in the chain that can fail.

Thanks for the reply.

That's what I had in mind for controlling the PTT.

I'm wondering what is the best option for getting the audio out of the Minitor. Will I need isolation transformer, etc. between the pager audio and the radio's mic or line input?

Any feedback would be appreciated.
