I have an MCS2000 25 watt UHF here that is giving the fail 01/90 error.
Its a local head version and I have checked the pins on the head, the connector on the main board, power cable and so on, they weren't the problem.
I searched the forums and found the info on the issue with the reg close to the audio chip, and suspect that it might very well be the problem.
A slight amount of pressure in about the middle of the removable cover will make the unit come to life. The radio is also pre 1999.
The problem I have is here in Australia it is impossible to get a service manual anymore from Motorola, I called them and they said they don't have them anymore, I also trolled the auction site for one. I am hoping that some very kind soul on the forum might have a PDF version of the manual they can help me out with, or even a scan of the board showing the U500 Regulator do I can locate it and repair the problem.
