Programming with IR port?

Hi,
Can you program Motorola pagers that use the JetEye for programming (ie., LS550) with the IR port on a laptop? I have an old LS550 laying around that I want to program to my local skywarn (they use a numeric system for alerts), and have an old Thinkpad that has a IR port on it. Is it possible?
