Motorola GP 328 - UHF CB

Post by big_jeff »

Hi, I have a Motorola GP 328

I brought it thinking I could use it on UHF CB.

I have the necessary software and programming lead to program the radio.

I have discovered the radio is on the 403 - 470 band and will not accept CB frequencies.

The model number is AZH25RDC9AA3

Does anyone out there know how to change the frequency band? or trick the software into accepting CB frequencies?

Cheers Jeff

Sorry, you're out of luck. Waris series radios won't allow you to program them out of band.

(For those outside Australia, UHF CB is 40 channels from 476.425 - 477.400 with 25KHz spacing. It is legal to use AS4295 land mobile type approved equipment on UHF CB as long as you stick to 5W etc.)

What radios do you own?: HT1550's, X9000's, CDM1550's

that R in your model number needs to be an S, then it will be in the frequency range you need.

Hi, I think HT1250 is quite similar to GP328 or GP338.
We have successfully converted 403-470MHz version to 450-527MHz version, in terms of the software. However, you need a lot of tunings after the conversion. You can only push the frequency out by 10 to 20 MHz.
For example,
A 403-470MHz after conversion to 450-527MHz can only work up to about 480MHz. Any further the radio will transmit with very low power. I think it's due to the front-end filter.
Also, we are able to change a 4Ch to 16Ch and vice versa.
One problem now is the copyright problem.

We have done a lot of experiment on the GP328 radio. I have to stress that we are only doing it for amatuer experiment and NOT for commercial purposes.
What I meant by "in terms of the software" was the "software" in the radio. The GP328 has 3 parts of data in the memory, we call them:
1. Radio only memory: Only read by radio which is responsible for normal functions. Cannot be changed.
2. CPS memory (read only): Read by the radio and the CPS, but cannot be changed using the CPS. Responsible for the number of channels, band limit, serial number, etc.
3. CPS memory (read/write): Read by the radio and the CPS, can be easily modified by the CPS. Responsible for the frequency, softpots, ID and etc.
I have read a lot about this topic and most people are looking at the CPS. CPS can only change the 3rd part of the memory. Therefore, even if you "force" the data into the radio, the 2nd and the 3rd parts will be mismatch and give you the error message. So it is quite different from GP300.
I could not tell you HOW to modify the 2nd part of the memory because I think Motorola will not allow us to do that. But it can be done.

There have been a lot of claims about this, by a lot of people, but I've never seen definitive evidence that it's possible.

i've heard people claim they can do it too but can't seem to back it up.
