KVL 3011CX U3 Failed

Post by Twisted_Pear »

[Edit: reworded to suit the arm-chair lawyers]

In my attempt to upgrade my CX to DX I thought I would save the firmware to disk first. I was able to read the original chip fine but when I placed it back in the KVL it caused the KVL to display "U3 FAILED." As far as I know it's pretty difficult to screw up an EPROM without complete destroying the data so I'm at a loss as to why it's now failing. The KVL worked fine before. Does anyone have an MD5 hash of a CX BIN file? If I somehow messed something up on chip removal it should show in the BIN.

I am not soliciting a need for third-party firmware so no PMs attempting to sell chips for stupid prices. If someone has a legit DX chip I may take it off your hands if this doesn't work out.

So let's be clear here -

What you're asking is, you want to violate Motorola's
intellectual copyrights, and would like step by step
instructions on how to do it ?

Well what am I supposed to do for a product that Motorola no longer supports or sells? Other than point out the obvious do you have anything positive to contribute? You act like I'm the only member on here to do something like this. If I had other avenues besides buying another full blown KVL off eBay I would use them. I don't see you pulling Motorola police in the other EPROM threads for Maxtracs, Spectras, etc.

I have pulled these before and never had a problem, you might have fallen victim to a static bump.

I have a pile of these in a box gathering dust, what is the part number on the chip and I will see if I have your exact one, pull it and email you the code. I have several models and versions, so it might take me a few days to find your exact one.

I'm preferably looking for TVN6140 but may take TVN6087 if the price is reasonable.

For those that happen upon this thread and need the MD5 hash info:

TVN6140A (DX): 7e0c419ba0b022d002ed734c85d6b62f
TVN6087B (CX): c4867c7e1d0b90a58e0b354efacc7984

Hopefully that's correct for the CX BIN.
