2 base stations with one paging encoder?

Post by Jay G. »

Ok here's the deal:

We use a Mitrek base station (low band) for our primary paging. We are now starting to move to UHF paging and need a UHF radio to send pages with too. We use a Zetron model 25 paging encoder which goes to the mitrek base now. I need to ALSO have a GM300 hooked up at the same time, so the tones will go off the same time. Is it as simple as just hooking the PTT and audio wires from the zetron to BOTH radios at the same time? any help appreciated!

You might want to install a multi pole keying relay. This way
the Zetron pulls the relay to generate a separate keying
line from different poles of the relay.

It probably wouldn't hurt to also run the paging audio
through another pair of contacts so the audio isn't
common to both radios all the time.

Now your up to 4 poles on the relay.

I guess I needed to throw in some more info.

I tested this setup yesterday. It worked perfectly the way I want it to. It keyed both radios at once, and even worked perfectly with the one mic which we had installed years ago to be only on F1. It now keys BOTH the UHF and low band radios, exactly what we want.

I guess what I am asking: Can this do any damage to the radios? I WANT both of them to work simultaniously - so they CANT tone out on low band and forget UHF or vice versa.

thanks for the help!

My two bits worth:
Glad your lash up works. Just be sure the grounds have a solid common connection.
You will cause no harm to your radios.
Been there done that.

The only thing that will be wrong is the line impedence.
But as long as your not dragging it to low, which I doubt you are it should work forever. (figurativly speaking of course)
