MSF5000 MRTI2000 phone patch remote interface question

Post by 4n6inv »

I have an MSF5000 VHF transparent secure repeater located about 11 miles from a phone line, aside from an expensive leased line. I also have two MRTI2000's that I got on eBay that appear to be in good functioning condition. My question(s) are:

Can't I just attach the MRTI2000 to a M1225, or similar Maxtrac running remote from the repeater on the same pair, and achieve the same basic function? If not; how?

Does anyone have a pinout of the interface cable M2000-MAX-CBL that runs between the Maxtrac / M1225 and the MRTI2000?

SOFTWARE Is there any difference in the software that Motorola sells for the MRTI2000 for $365.00 vs. the software that Gai-Tronics or Tessco sells for $60.00? The MRTI2000 has the Motorola logo on it, but is the same unit, schematic - wise as the Gai-Tronics unit. But, Gai-Tronics WON'T support it, and Motorola Tech support acts like they want nothing to do with it, either. Gai-Tronics is very friendly up until the point where they ask (and they do ask) whether or not it's a unit that was manufactured by them for Motorola. Being the up and up guy I am; I'm always honest and admit it's Motorola. At that point, they literally say: "I'm sorry; I can no longer continue this phone calll with you." "You'll need to call Motorola at 1-800-EAT-POOP". Motorola squirms out of it by forwarding me to la, la land each time and leaving me there.

Any takers for some advice?

Thanks,

Jim[/b]

The short answer is no, you cannot use an M1225 or any other mobile as an extension of the phone patch for this reason:

The patch is a duplex device requiring the transmitter to be up all the time. If the patch is busy transmitting its audio back to the MSF, how is the user supposed to key up and reply? The M1225 would be jamming out the users.

And again, being a duplex device, you'd need two M1225's, one for transmit and one for receive.

You *COULD* put up a duplex base station wired into the MSF 5000 and another duplex base station at the phone line with the patch on it, and that would work, but it requires another frequency pair, a lot of wiring, and a lot of money.

The other option is to run the patch in simplex mode (if it supports it) using VOX keying, but that really sucks and is anything but reliable... What happens if you get put on hold with hold music blaring out the patch and someone has an emergency? Once again, the patch is jamming...

My two bits worth:
A 'phone patch on a control station?
Sure!
Zetron #30 World Patch.
There is an available audio delay board for this use.
Not to mention factory cables that work.
I have several MRTI in my junk pile.
I got a ration from GAI several years ago when I was trying to order a part for a trunking remote.
I will not go out of my way to do business with them.
Aloha, Bernie
