CDM1250 Install

Post by jc29ems »

Hello All,
We recently got CDM1250's installed in our ambulances in the back. Everytime the ambulance is shut off, the radio shuts off, which is what we want. But when the ambulance is turned back on, the radio stays off, we have to manually turn the radio back on. What can I do to hook up the radio so when shutoff and then turned back on, the radio will come on.

Thanks

did you try using the search here on the board?

Anyway hook up a 12+ to pin #10 on the radio for ignition sense, this will allow the radio to turn on with the key that starts your rig.

also make sure the radio is +12v ALL THE TIME to the main power source. the pin #10 is +12v Ignition Sense

also... the CPS has different options for the Pin 10 config, it can override the power button, or may even allow the Main Power to act as ign sense, although, you will LOOSE the ability for the radio to turn back on, on the same channel it was previously shut off on...

Install a jumper from #7 to #9 on the accessory connector. This will allow the power cable to be the main turn on & off as usually is with large fire apparatus when just about everything is wired to the disconnect switch. It turns on automatically when the main power harness gets power. DO check with the radio tech you get the radio from and make certain that it's not programmed to use #9 for other use. All of my radios are factory set so I can use the configuration above.

Pin 7 is grnd and pin 9 is programable analog input # 5

So how is that going to work for him?

I actually found this information here some time ago. Pin 9 was kept shorted to pin 7 (ground) to turn on the unit whenever power was applied to the radio thru the main. Been working with every radio in the fire service since then and it was perfect.

Sometimes it's just pin 7 & 9, sometimes the intercom was intefaced with it which also uses pin 7.

I am still confused as to how that is gonna work. I have a CDM1550 code plug open while typing this and see no way to program accessory pin 9 for this functionality. Maybe I am missing something???

I tried this today on a CDM1250 and it worked. No reference to this feature in the radio configuration in the accessory pins tab but it does work.

Not the first time Motorola has left us scratching our head.

There are a lot of things about the CDM series that result in scratching of one's head.

I simply took the stock radios and made the jumpers on the accessory plug. No programming / modifications was done on the radios.

Try it out with a small jumper commonly found inside computers across the pins #7 & #9, apply power direct to the main power cables and they should come right on.

7 & 9 are jumpered on the GM300 and Maxtrac series for the "panic button" feature.

We used one of the accessory connectors from a GM300 on a CDM and discovered this behavior.

Its most likely not in the design and I wouldnt trust it. Simply power pin 10 from the same source you get your battery from and it will power up when the battery switch is turned on.

Updated to working link! Still hearing these all over the place.
