serial bus I/O error old RSS.

Post by jets1961 »

Hi All,

I am getting a “serial bus I/O error” when trying to read the code plug from an Astro Saber R radio using RSS Ver. R07.01.00. I am using a 486DX running at either 33MHz or 16 MHz and have tried turning internal and external extended memory OFF.

I also have MTSX Ver R06.00.00 installed and am able to read the code plug from the radio, but (like I should) get the error “code plug to new for this version of RSS” or something like that. So I know the rib and cable are OK.

The MTSX has a nice utility to check the com port and it checks well but the older Saber RSS does not. Any ideas on what is wrong or what to do next? Please help!!!

Regards, Joe

I havent played with anything saber since I left the UK.
Even then is was the MX1000,2000 and 3000.

Maybe I thought he was using the dos disk that used to ship with CPS.
I have no idea what the last version of that was as I use CPS for the XTS3000 (same software as Astro Saber) and just used to toss the dos disk in the bin.

In the Astro portable RSS,you can set different Com ports and if you have used the wrong one,you have the IO error.

Yes I am using DOS 6.21, and yes I checked the COM port. Like it said in my post I was able to communicate with the radio using MTSX so I think the cable is ok also.

the analog saber rss = rvn4002k ver # R07.01.00 09/01/93(last ver as of 02/06/04)
is this what you used

the opening screen reads radio service software for saber series radio
this rss will not work with an astro saber

the astro saber portable rss = rvn4100aa ver R09.05.00 (last ver for dos) also for the xts3000

the opening screen of the astro portable rss reads
radio service software for Astro portable radios

the astro portable cps = rvn4182 Windows for astro saber/xts3000
the astro portable/mobile cps =rvn4184 Windows for astro saber/xts3000 & astro spectra mobile

the point of my "failed the test" comment
in this fast paced world we read the words but are we paying attention to
the details of what was written

while an astro portable rss ver R07.01.00 may and probably does exist
the resemblance to the analog saber rss ver raised a red flag in my mind

No you are right it's the wrong RSS. Thanks for the info on the correct RSS.
