Console 2-Tones

Post by dereckpristas »

Anyone know where I can get a list of the default tones in the Zetron Consoles?

Which Zetron Console System? 4010? 4024? 4048?

I think most of the Zetron Stuff comes with the capability to do most paging formats (Mot, GE, Plectron, DTMF, 5/6 tone) as well as custom two-tones.

I've got the 4010 console books at work... I'll see if it's got a table in there.
In God we trust. Everyone else, we run through NCIC, Thinkstream, and III.

Hey Dereck, I looked in the manuals but couldn't find the table listed in there. What tone are you wondering about? I could try and plug it in the software?

Yea, it isn't in my manual either but mine looks like it was just thrown together in a 3-ring binder so I wasn't sure if your's might have it or not.

I just need to know about 3 tones:

- What to type into the console to drop the tone
- What the tone frequencies are to program into pagers and radios

basically for 3 sets of tones. We are currently not using tones but are switching to them so we have no guidelines right now on which one's we have to use.

In general, you program a Zetron console as follows:

Select a single paging format or create a table of multiple paging formats and leading digits.

If the paging format is Motorola 100-series or 1000-series, define the timing; if the format is Plectron, ditto.

If using Motorola or Plectron, on paper create a table of users and assign Motorola or Plectron capcodes. Then go to tone tables and derive and note the actual tone freqs for each capcode.

To operate, press in either (a) Motorola or Plectron capcode for target user (single format) or (b) Zetron leading digit and then Motorola or Plectron capcode for target user; press "Page Send" and tones will be sent.

Program subscribers page receivers for the actual tones, via the paper table you used.

There is an alternative way (which I happen to prefer): Zetron allows you to define one leading digit for "custom" paging. Now you can create your own capcodes and define explicit tone freqs for each one. This eliminates a lot of tedious work converning Motorola or Plectron capcodes into tone freqs (and associated inevitable errors in doing so), and is particularly helpful when creating a scheme involving group calls. When I do this, I tend to use Plectron tone value freqs (whole Hz; no decimals); you may find that some pagers will change your input freqs by a small amount, but so long as the pager freq doesn't vary from the console freq by more than about 1%, it will work.

If you do want to convert Motorola or Plectron capcodes to pager tones, I have found the tables in the Motorola C200-series TRC to be far easier to use than the ones commonly reproduced elsewhere (including Midian and Zetron).

If you PM me your email address, I will forward you a sample custom paging plan that we have used with success using both CDM portables and Minitor pagers as subscriber units.
