Motorola FRS T6300 T6310 series, Hear Clear? Crappy rx audio

Post by Max-trac »

I have 3 Motorola Family Radio Service (FRS) radios, T6300 and T6310.
The receive audio on them is real crappy, even while listening to other FRS radios.
All three do it, and so does a friends.

Sounds like some kind of AGC, AVL or Hear-Clear.
Like listening to a radio that is transmitting hearclear or has the mic-AGC turned on.
Fluffy, "blooming" audio.
Their transmitted audio is fine (while listening on other radios).

Anyone have similar experiences? Or fixes?
Thanks!

C'mon now, be nice to the guy. :)

Here's what I've found: Motorola Talkabouts usually only like talking to their own. They do have companding going on, and it doesn't play well with other brands of radios. You can't turn it off (at least as far as I know). With that said, I have found that the newer Motorola Talkabout radios of the last two years suck - the older ones like the T5920's and T5800's work very well as far as the class of radio goes, with good audio for what they are. The new 9500's are supposed to be okay, though.

I bought some radios a while ago at Costco for the kiddies and family members who are prone to losing things while camping, and took them all back. I experienced exactly what you are describing. Buy some of the Midland GTX series radios - you'll be much happier. The Uniden's are also nice, and in my opinion more "rugged". (No flames please!)

Now, back to our regularly scheduled program on Jedis. 8)
Vote for Pedro.
