Spectra and Multiple Securenet Formats?

Post by KE9GK »

Question for all you Spectra guys...

Is it possible to run DVP and DES-XL encryption out of the same spectra using the dual Hybrid setup?

If so, how do you load the respective keys into just the DVP module, and the other key just into the DES-XL module?

Thanks for the insight

Yes, in fact a have some more des-xl/dvp modules available. Now the issue is loading the keys. With the older keyloaders there is not one capable of loading both des-xl and dvp keys. You have to use two different keyloaders.

Scott - he's talking old analog Spectras, you're talking Astro. Totally different crypto requirements.

Yes, I realized that after answering this post. Simply confused as I was also responding to him concerning Astro Spectras!

If memory serves me right you slave each mode to a particular algo type then go to a mode that has one algo, keyload it with the correct loader, go to a mode with the other algo and keyload with the correct loader.

Yup. Thats what I am (pretty sure) I did with my VHF spectra. Worked just fine.

Thanks Guys...

I have the 2 keyloaders, cables, and hybrids...my main concern was how to "load" each hybrid with its respective "key" without screwing with the other hybrid's already loaded algorythm. I have a bunch of DVP radios that work great for close proximity...but I needed the DES-XL for range between a few of the mobles..without losing compatibility with the other radios......So mode slaved it is...I'll give it a shot.....Thanks All!!

if memory serves, when equipped with dual hybrids - you press AND HOLD the SECURENET button until it says "KEY 1" then use (i think) the SEL button to select "KEY 2"

keyloading is done for each algo as it's installed in the hybrid carrier
