Spectra to Tone Remote Adaptor Pinout

Post by KE9GK »

I know this was covered in a recent post here...but I am having problems with the configuration that that past post talked about..so here it goes again

Looking for the pinout to connect my high power analog spectra (110w DB25) to a Gai-Tronics ITA-2000A (DB15) which I believe was marketed as a Moto part (sorry dont have the number off hand) with the CommandPlus series consoles. In addition..if anyone could advise the proper dip switch/jumper configuration for the TRA..which I think was my biggest problem in the original endeavor.

I also would like to take the speaker audio as the input to the TRA due to the discriminator audio being unsquelched....so I also would like capacitor values would enable me to do that as well (I am aware of the floating ground issue with the audio IC )

Thanks For Putting Up With My Stupidity!!! :D

Can't help you with the pinout, but as for connecting the speaker audio, I wouldn't use caps...the spectra output is balanced audio, the input to the TRA is unbalanced.

Using caps will give you DC isolation, but leave you with balanced audio, instead I would use a transformer, which will not only give you isolation, but convert from balanced to unbalanced as well.
A small 600:600 ohm transformer should work, you can find them from places like Mouser. If you're not going to use a speaker on the radio I'd use an appropriately rated load resistor.

I don't have a manual for the Gaitronics TRA so I can't help with the settings.

Use of speaker audio is a very poor idea. I would assume that the Gaitronics, like any other TRA I have ever used, is designed to take discriminator audio along with a carrer sense input from the radio and provide its own de-emphasis and squelch for the RX audio.

They have manuals on their website:
