Actually, back in the day, /\/\ used to sell a steel hard hat with a mobile whip installed on the top.
This was (apparently) for an external antenna for portables, pagers, etc.
I remember seeing a picture of one years ago, but never saw the item itself.
It was weird!
(but then again, so was Tellario) :lol:

actually they used to make an antenna that looks like a hard hat.
Hence the name. It could be that

I've got a catalog page showing the helmet antenna. (accessories catalog, ~1980)
NAD-6050A Helmet antenna for pocket receiver 144-174Mhz w/phone plug. Helmet not supplied by Motorola.

They also made leg antennas for pocket receivers, both loband and hiband vhf.
