what do i need to program our dept's moto ht750 & 1250s?

Hello all,

I may have gotten myself a bit confused going through some of the threads re: programming
the ht750 and 1250s. And so I apologize first if I'm redundant!

My FD has about 60 HT750s and about 10 HT1250s. We'd like to change the programming of
some features. I gather that there is a hardware / cable adapter kit for connecting a radio to
a PC, and some software that runs on the PC.

(In this sense, it seems somewhat analogous to programming their Minitor pagers, which we
also do, for in-house use only).

If this is something that we can purchase and use legitimately, can someone point me to the
proper part numbers?

you will need a programming cable which is the same for both 750 and 1250, you will need a rib box, you need a pc, most new ones will work but it will need to have a real serial port on it, no usb to serial adaptor, and you will need the cps software that you will need to purchase from motorola. now the down side, motorola don't like to sell the waris pro software so there is a good chance you won't get it, depending on your location. so that will be the place to start, if you can't get the software, don't bother with the rest. but with that many radios it's definately worth it to do it yourself instead of pay $45 for each radio to be done at the local shop.

Nonsense. I use a serial to USB adapter all the time with Pro series radios. I just programmed 10 CDM1550LS+ and 12 HT1250LS+ last week with an adapter. So far the only current radio I've found that absolutely will not work for me with the adapter is the BPR40.

Your mileage will vary with USB-to-serial adaptors. I've personally seen both Waris & Commercial series radios corrupt with the use of adaptors. Other times the set-ups have no issues at all.

That issue aside though, Motorola usually doesn't have a problem licensing the Waris CPS to public safety entities, so you'll probably be ok.

Be VERY careful with serial to USB adapters. I temporarily bricked an EX600XLS UHF using this method a while back.

1st. Sign up for a motorola online account (WHICH IS FREE), then wait for them to activate your account.
2nd. Sign the general license agreement, wait for them to Ok it
3rd. Then call up motorola to request a restricted software questioniare on your online MOL account.
4rd. Fill out the application and submit on the computer..ONCE THEY OK YOU FOR THE RSS YOUR SET.
5th. Buy the RIBLESS (I LIKE) programming cable off your MOL account directly from motorola. This cable will only work on the HT 750/1250/1550 and also all the LS/LS+ radio in the HT series. This cable cost about $150.00. But the rib cable and box will work on all radios with the right adapters and this will cost a $$$$$$$$$$$

ONCE YOU GOT THE STUFF: YOU NEED A PC WINDOWS XP I like


FYI: Motorola will only give the software to Authorized Dealers/Service shops and certain public saftey agencys. They also will check up on if you legit.
