HELP!!! M1225 Software with RIBless USB Cable

Post by lfguard10 »

I have a UHF & VHF M1225 with Software. I have a USB RIBless cable. When I attempt to read the radio an error occurs and says to check the RIB to ensure a good connection and make sure the radio is turned on. I am running XP.

What radios do you own?: HT1550's, X9000's, CDM1550's

see if you can borrow a real rib & cable to try first to make shure your software and computer are working correctly. and i'm not positive on the compatibility of the 1225 stuff on a ntfs system, maybe somebody else has tried it but you may have to go back to a 98 or ME os.

The newest version of 1225 series rss, version 4 contains install files for win95 and xp both, only the xp version works with xp, older versions do not, but I don't remember the exact error. Also, like HLA said, you may want to try a real rib, as the usb knock offs will not always work.

I forgot to mention.....when I go to Computer Configuration and click CommTest, my radio will turn off and reset, and turn back on. So the cable itself has good connections. Also, I did install the XP version.

Okay. with that info, I would suspect the ribless cable. I have had problems with 1225's and the Motorola ribless cable, so it would not surprise me if that one would not work. I have had very little luck with any usb to serial adapter and programming, and that is what your able is made out of.

M1225s are oddly picky about what hardware you use to program them. I had a Polaris PA-II RIB that would program anything and everything all the way from STXes to XTS3000s, but all of a sudden one day it quit talking to M1225s. It would still read/write to every other radio I had handy to try on it, but it wouldn't touch a 1225.

+1 for get a genuine RLN4008B Motorola RIB.

I have been unable to program the M1225 with conventional usb programming cables as well. Most Cables contain the Prolific PL-2303 chipset and all of the configurations and adaptations i have tried have failed. I have been able to make a working usb cable out of an FTDI 5V TTL cable available from http://WWW.FTDICHIP.COM for about $20. The pinouts are the same as a generic serial cable and when done you have a basic programming rib.
