MSF5000 Problem

Post by w9sl »

Need help, I have a C74CXB-7106BT repeater that indicates a PA failure that I probably caused. I was retuning to the ham band and while putting out only 5W, I made the mistake of tweaking the prefilter to the PA. The system immediately shutdown and will not activate the PA when keyed. Figuring that I screwed up the prefilter setting, I bypassed it and the post filter as well, and I still can't get it to key up. I hope I didn't destroy the IPA output transistor, but since I can't get the PA to key up, I can't check it. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

What radios do you own?: X9000, HT1550XLS, MTS2000, etc

What you need to do is put the station in test mode. I forget how to do this, but disconnect the IPA from your prefilter and connect it to a wattmeter/dummy load.

I think if you push down on set and transmit at the same time, the station will go into test mode. You may have to play with it a bit. Then you can push the transmit switch and have the station transmit without going into PA failure. You should see six or seven watts out.

I think the test or some red light will come on on the SSCB and that will tell you that you are in test mode. If all else fails, read the book.

Thanks, that worked, and allowed me to determine that the IPA output transistor is gone. It's labelled '33P54' and the moto p/n is 4882233p54. Any ideas where I could find one would be appreciated.
Thanks,
