Post by KitN1MCC »

i have a 9000 spectra with a siren i just did a reinstall and a day later it says speaker short when in PA mode and the audio on Airhorn and external speaker is low. i checked all the cable and even hooked it up into a dummy load. i took the cabll end off to check to see if short i cut the cable and installed a new one still has error

do you think it is the Siren amp

I had an 1185 a while back that did that crap to me... brand-new speakers would trip it into speaker short. I can't remember the exact mod, but there's one pin for speaker short detection... I cut the pin and didn't worry about it. If the speakers short, it's going to blow up the amp... and I can get another one on eBay for $20 or less.

Do ensure that the speakers are not actually shorted before you do this, of course.

I'm mid-move and my service manuals are in boxes. If you can get a copy of the service manual, it's very obvious... took about 2.3 seconds of studying the schematic to track it down.

Did you check the current draw on the large red wire going to the siren? It should not draw any more than 15 amps with full siren output.

Check the solder joints on the shunt resistor also.
