The trunking Syntor X 9000 radio can ONLY use the HCN1032 control head. As far as I know this control head is totally useless on any other Motorola radio. If you have a trunking Syntor X 9000 (not the X 9000E) then you do not need to read any farther.
The trunking Syntor X 9000E can use the HCN1045, HCN1063, HCN1073, etc. control heads. The HCN1033 and HCN1041 are conventional Syntor X 9000 control heads (I have never tried them on a trunking radio, but, I would not be surprised if they did not work). I am not sure about using the HCN1036 control head on a trunking radio.
The HCN1045, HCN1063, HCN1073, etc., control heads can be programmed as trunking or conventional. Be aware that after you program a control head as a trunking head, the conventional Syntor X 9000 RSS will not be able to program it back too conventional (there is a bug in the RSS).
Here is web page with a list of control heads with notes about using them for conventional use:

Except for the ones I listed above, any other control head that works with the conventional Syntor X 9000 should also work with the Syntor X 9000E trunking radio.
