CDM1250 Flash Adapter
Okay, I am trying to flash upgrade a CDM1250. I have flashed many waris portables, but am having a problem figuriong out mobiles. I have the Motorola flash adapter box that has the switch for portables and mobiles. When I use my Batlabs designed homemade programming cable using the radio's RJ45 connector, the radio won't go into boot strap mode. Do I have to program using the rear twenty pin connector or can I do this through the RJ45 on the front of the radio.
If I have to program using the rear connector, I don't understand the Batlabs diagram.

The diagram shows pin 13 on the rear connector going to pin 1 on the RJ45, but when I look at the regular radio programming cable listed above the flash adapter cable, there is nothing on pin 1 on the programing cable RJ45. I know I am missing something here.

Re: CDM1250 Flash Adapter
I feel your pain! I just spent the morning with the same issue. I finally made my own cable from the one in the service manual. Hooked it up to the rear connector and flashed the mobile. Well, I left out a step. I found that the flashing program says put the switch in "B" for mobiles. Didn't work over many tries. By mistake I put it in "A" one time and that fixed the problem. Flashed fine. Works 100%. Maybe my radio now thinks it's a portable but at least it works like a mobile.

I don't have the service manual for this radio. Does the diagram in the service manual match the one here on batlabs:

Re: CDM1250 Flash Adapter
I don't have my factory RLN4853 in front of me to verify at the moment, but that looks correct. I will try to actually look at it later this evening.
I wouldn't worry about the floating pin 1 on the modular jack. Apparently /\/\ wanted to make B+ available for some other (future?) use that isn't relevant here.
Both portables and mobiles get put into bootstrap by putting the adapter in the "A" position. /\/\ actually put out a correction on that one a while ago. Given that, why they put the "B" position there in the first place is a bit of a mystery to me.

Re: CDM1250 Flash Adapter
Okay, that answers it. I am in the process of ordering my flash adapter cable from /\/\ as I write this.

Re: CDM1250 Flash Adapter
I believe that the B position is used to upgrade the firmware via the microphone port on the mobiles. The A position is used for portables, and when upgrading the firmware via the rear accessory connector on the mobiles.HumHead wrote:Both portables and mobiles get put into bootstrap by putting the adapter in the "A" position. /\/\ actually put out a correction on that one a while ago. Re: CDM1250 Flash Adapter
Perhaps, although I believe that /\/\ specifically advises against trying to do a firmware upgrade through the mic jack, and recomends only using the accessory connector.

Re: CDM1250 Flash Adapter
Right, but if you absolutely positively want to, you have the option, though it's your funeral if you do

Re: CDM1250 Flash Adapter
Well, I flashed the radio through the rear connector using my /\/\ adapter cable. It still was a bit of a chore to get the radio into bootstrap mode. My timing on the two power button pushes must not have been just right, maybe too long. Eventually on the seventh try, it did it's thing. What a pain! It was a version 4.01.00 radio and I needed it to be over version 5.00.00 in order to support my option board. Thank you everyone for your input.
Re: CDM1250 Flash Adapter
It´s very easy to put them into bootstrap mode. You only have to switch the flash switch to on,disconnect the radio power for a few seconds and switch the radio on.

Re: CDM1250 Flash Adapter
OK... so in reading the thread.... is it then a safe assumption that when building the adapter, leaving out the switch and jumper to pin 25 is ok? [assuming open is "a"] Until they make a use for that pin anyway..?
thanks,
thanks,
