Hello im new and i have a problem. Iam from the Netherlands so my writing issend so good.
I toght that programing a radio was easy but thats not truth.

I have a Toshiba T2110 laptop a 386 procesor with windows 3.1 and dos v6.0 a slow computer.
I have a MTS2000 i believe ( Model: H01RDH9CK7AN ) http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b342/ ... nzicht.jpg
I have a RIB box http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b342/ ... mpleet.jpg
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b342/ ... tekker.jpg
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b342/ ... tekker.jpg
I have a Cable http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b342/ ... mpleet.jpg
I have the follwing software RRS (Radio Service Software) for MT 2000, MTX8000, MTX9000 and mts2000 radios ver R06.00.00 Sept 5 1997

This is what i do to program that thing.

I connect the cable to the radio and than strait into the com port from the laptop.
I start the program that i dl from the internet.
I check the com settings and he connects, he ses connection ok.
The display ses CSQ and he is quiet ( normal connection he reciefs communication from the air )

I try to read the codeplug from the radio but than he ses : warning: communication with the radio Faild
`> CHECKSUM ERROR <
Retry Last Command Again
F2 F10
Retry Cancel
I retry but the same thing pops up again but the radio radio restarts and he is in reciefing mode.
If i try again to read the codeplug from the radio he makes the same announcement as before.

Could you help me out i dont know what to do next.
Am i using the wright software.
Must i use the RIB box.

Hope to hear from someone.

What COM port is your cable plugged into? Is the RSS set up to use that port? To check, boot the RSS, hit F9 (setup computer configuration), then hit F3 (PC configuration). There should be a selection there to tell the RSS which COM port to use. Also, do you have another radio you can use to make sure the COM Port of the computer is actually working? Also, are you running the RSS under DOS, or Windows? You should only run it under DOS. If Windows is running at all, you should exit it before running the RSS.

But does he or does he not need to use a RIB to
program this radio?

If you look at the pics he has linked, it looks like he's using a RIBless cable.

I think you're drawing an inference that's not certain.
I see a cable, similar to a non-RIB computer-to-XTS cable,
and I see a separate RIB. His question is "Do I need to use
the RIB box?", which leads me to think it's possible that he's
not using the RIB, which just might account for his
predicament, assuming he's doing everything else right,
such as computer speed, etc. etc. etc.

All valid points Tom, but he also mentions that he does get a good report when he tries a comm test.

Sam, what about the other things I mentioned? Have you checked it all out yet?

Ryan,

I'm still not convinced that he's got a RIB in the line.
A ribless cable, by definition, has no rib, like we use on
the XTS5000 radios, so maybe he does not have a RIB
in the line. The error message, "comm w/radio failed"
to me means that there is a serious error in the hardware,
maybe in the software, but something BIG is wrong. I
don't think he has communication with the radio right now.

Sam, put the RIB in the line, and see if your results are
better.

Guys i use COM1 and its a ribless cable so you dont need a RIB box to program ( so i was told ) correct me if im wrong.
I do the COM test than he ses that he is fine in the windows program so the mentioning of using the program in dos i closed the windows and im in the dos and startup the program do the same thing. Now he is running and reading the codedata, but he now ses that the "codeplug is too new for this application" so thats my new problem. I downloaded a other program for programing a GP1200 ( as mentiond in other form items about modelno) but i used it on another computer
a p4, win xp and software for GP1200 but now he ses that he is blocked by the radio or something is blocked so this issend the solution for my problem i think.
I hope that you guys know what i mean. Otherwise let me know by msn [email protected]

Sam,

It looks as if the codeplug/RSS in the radio is newer than
the RSS you are trying to use, so the program won't work.
You will probably need to get a version of the RSS that is
at least equal to or newer than the version in your radio.

"Codeplug too new" is a very common error message and
means exactly what it says.
