MTR2K PTT Disable feature

Post by FMROB »

Hello all,

Is there a pin on the system connector for PTT disable. I need to remotely set-up/knock-down the radio. My thought is for a maxtrac or CDM mobile with MDC or DTMF signaling operating the PTT diasable. Thanks, Rob

If someone knows could they post the pin location + number active high or low, etc.

The usual way of implementing Rpt/Dis is via FTs over the wireline or, in a voted system, via the "Disable" pin on a SpectraTac.

If I understand the question, you want to implement Rpt/Dis via a contact closure, which would be manipulated OTA by a link radio.

Though I've never done what you have in mind, a review of the MTR Installation manual (68P81096E20-N) implies that the Aux I/O board would have to be installed; you would then wire the output of a link-controlled relay to one of the WildCard Inputs, and using Wildcard programming, direct the station into "Standby" mode when the input is active. According to the manual, the folllowing WildCard Inputs are presently supported:

GPI 3: Pin A5
GPI 4: Pin C5
GPI 7: Pin A22
GPI 9: Pin A28
GPI 10: Pin C12
GPI 11: Pin B12
GPI 12: Pin B11
GPI 13: Pin B9

I want to say again: none of the foregoing has been verified.

If I were doing this, I'd give serious thought to mating the MTR2000 to a Zetron external controller, and then using my link-controlled relay simply to interrupt the ExtPTT line. Note that you need an interface, available from Zetron as p/n 950-9919, between the controller and the station. In addition to simplifying wiring, this interface provides a means of mixing external voice and external tone, as the MTR does not have a separate input for external tone. Zetron has an App Note (Pub. 011-0322C), which guides the installer, including with references to station and controller programming. We have found this setup to be quite reliable.

Does the MTR2000 allow for set-up/knock down over the wire line? Thanks, Rob

Yes. After implementing it, you want to be sure that, with repeater "knocked down," it still permits keying by the dispatcher (assuming you're running an in-cabinet repeater with wireline dispatch).

The MTR RSS doesn't look anything like the Quantar RSS, which you may be used to, and it takes a bit of hunting around to find the screens you're looking for, but there is a TRC screen and Rpt/Dis is a function available.

Hi FMROB,

If you need to set-up a function as Rptr Set-Up / Knockdown through a RF Link, you will be required to purchase an AUX I/O module CLN1206A for $600.00 through the Parts Department and install the module in the top slot of the card cage. Then in the Station software pull down the AUX I/O Wildcard Field and Enable module otherwise the MTR2000 won't know the module is installed. Then you will need to do basic software programming for the Wildcard to perform the WC Inputs / Outputs via the J5 System Connector.

I may have an alternate idea if you don't need to have a RF Link for the Set-Up / Knockdown feature and want to do the same via Tone Remote Control. Program in the TRC field for F1 HLGT/FT 1950 Hz/LLGT Normal Repeater Operation and the program F2 HLGT/FT 1850 Hz
/LLGT Half Duplex Transmit. For the F2 programming everything's identical to the Repeater channel "Except" Disable the "Repeat Function Field". Essencially F1 will be the Repeater Set-Up and F2 will be the Repeater Knockdown. No CLN1206A AUX I/O WildCard will be required for this TRC function. You'll need a 2 frequency TRC Remote.
