Slow PL detect on MSF5K

Post by K0XM »

Ok guys I have a REAL problem.
I have an MSF5K, and it takes a LONG time (about 1/2 to 3/4 sec) to detect PL and start repeating. Everything looks ok in the codeplug. But this is baffeling myself and a couple of tech guys.
Any ideas?

I have to look at the manual for the MSF to see the settings, I don't recall is there are any settings dealing with the pl/dpl decode. A question though....

Is this happeing with a particular radio, or group of radios?

I'll take a shot in the dark here. Check the setting for "S-Tac clear repeater delay". From the main menu--F4-F6-page 3. Normally used in a voting setup to allow voter enough time to get ptt to the repeater before it goes into "in-cabinet repeat". If you find it set to 500, there's your half second. This, of course, is assuming you have a CXB model 5K, but you mentioned looking at the codeplug so I'm thinking that is the case.

Sorry for the delay guys...work has me traveling ALOT. It is user independent, so every radio has the same conditions. All signals are slowly decoded. I will check the codeplug but if I rememeber right, all the stac settings are disabled. It is a single site rptr, and yes, it is a CXB. I have a 250w I am getting ready to go for a multi site rpelacement. I will download and comapre the codeplugs, but the single site with the problem has been in service over a year and it just started doing this. I am also going to hook the IFR up and see if there is any broadband noise, and/or intermod on the ananlyzer. At this point, it is kinda hard to get the time to go to the site, but going to have to make the time to get this fixed. I will keep you posted.

My two bits worth:
The problem could be caused by low frequency phase jitter in the receive VCO.

Set your system analyzer to monitor the receive injection frequency to see if the injection frequency is stable.
If not clean the VCO interior and tuning slug. The castings used in the MSF grow metallic whiskers.
