MSF5000 Warning Tones

Post by jayres »

Here is one...

Have an MSF5000 here in the office, and it's sending warning tones back over the wireline to the console, (double beep every 10 seconds or so). It also is OTA while transmitting. Have tried power cycling the station, no luck with that. How in the world do you clear the stinking warning tone???

Two beeps indicates a transmit power problem. Only way to clear the alarm is to fix the trouble.

In the for what its worth category:

Here's a quick break down of your audible error codes
1 = Battery Revert Alarm
2 = PA alarm
3 = Synthesizer alarm
4 = Overvoltage alarm (with reference to battery backup)
5 = TSTAT alarm
6 = Reflected swr alarm
7 = Forward power alarm
8 = Redundant station alarm

Okie dokie... well, would be a PA problem then.... It apparently isnt an issue for the past day or two... Havent heard the tones either wireline or OTA. BTW... are the tones the same for MTR2000's?

Jayres,

I don't have the manual in front of me, but on the pull out RF tray front panel is a adjustable pot for TX power. This is the casue of many PA fail beeps on the msf.

Pull the tray out, spary contact cleaner and operate the device with a plastic tuning fork. Do this while transmitting and connected with a watt meter connected. YOu should see a stable raise/lower in tx power. If it is crappy, the needle will jump all over.

The part is still available from mother M, and it is an easy fix. Good luck, rob
