Minitor III Disassembly

Post by rmiles »

Does anyone have step-by-step instructions from the services manual on how to properly disassemble a Minitor III? I can't seem to see how it's held togther.

Remove set screw at bottom with allen wrench. Insert screwdriver into battery compartment. Pry. Wait for it to break.

Seriously, they're a pain in the neck to get open without breaking the tabs that hold them together. If you look in the battery compartment you might be able to see the plastic clips that snap over plastic tabs on the other half. If you have a very small screwdriver you may be able to get it in there and carefully pry the clip over the tab, then work your way around the edge until you pop them all (total of four). Othewise, just pry apart at the battery compartment until the closest clip pops or breaks, then work your way around the edge prying and hope for the best. I think I've only ever gotten one open without breaking at least one of the plastic clips...I'm sure others are better at it than I am. They'll usually go back together pretty well even if one clip is broken, but it's no longer intrinsically safe.

Thanks for the reply. I did see the tabs, but could not disengage them. I can’t believe /\/\ would make it so difficult and destructive to get these apart. Are the IV’s and V’s similar? The II’s were soooo easy.

The IIIs never were.

The IVs are just as bad and IF you require the unit to be FM certified, don't even attempt it. I don't know about the Vs.
