Serial port question

Post by techtonics »

I am aware of usb to serial port adapters and they have some luck programming. but has anyone tried a PCIMA serial card for a laptop? found one online and was wondering if anyone had tried it. I know i am not the only one tired of trying to find a new laptop with a serial port.

Actually, it's been discussed to death over the last few years. They have been found to be the most reliable method for getting a serial port in laptops which don't have any. Do a search for "PCMCIA serial" and you'll get plenty of information.

I have the Belkin USB to Serial adapter. I can't remember the model number off hand, but it features data RX and TX lights, actually 3 LEDs on the 9pin Serial end. It's worked flawlessly every time I've used it so far. I think I paid about $30 for it, but this one is worth the money.

I like this option better than the PCMCIA slot option, you can also use it with a desktop that lacks the PCMCIA ports.
